VISIT TO NATIONAL DAIRY RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NDRI), KARNAL

A visit to NDRI, Karnal was organized by the School of Biosciences, IMS University Courses Campus on 22nd October, 2016.

The National Dairy Research Institute as country’s premier Dairy Research institution is continuously working to develop its R&D programs to better serve the nation in terms of food security, employment generation, poverty alleviation and economic prosperity. NDRI, Karnal had received Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR institution award.

Students visited cattle yard and find out different breeds of cattle like Karan swiss, Karan freeze, Gir etc. along with buffalo clones developed at NDRI, Karnal. Students have also seen the process of sensors, controlling animals diet and automatic milking process through machines. Students also explored different aspects of dairy research in Model dairy plant including production and quality control where Dr. Vaishali Sharma explained different adulterants and antibiotic test etc.

At National Referral Centre, NDRI, Dr. Raghu explained about Biosafety cabinets and different equipments like VIDAS, Double door autoclave, Surface Plasmon resonance, plate reader, automatic media dispenser etc. Students were very enthusiastic and passionate to learn. Beyond the academics, this industrial visit has provided a practical perspective to the students; it helped to combine the theoretical knowledge with the industrial exposure. It offered an opportunity to learn through interaction, working methods and employment practices of the industry. It was a wonderful experience for the students.
